Founded in 2016, Kalavishwa Studio brings together Ar. Akhil Mulay’s passion for architecture and Mr. Jayant Mulay’s four decades of experience in construction. Based in Pune, the studio is a multidisciplinary practice of designers, planners, and thinkers committed to creating thoughtful, innovative, and sustainable spaces that respond sensitively to their natural, cultural, and built contexts.
At Kalavishwa Studio, exploration is central to the design process. Physical and digital model-making, through handcrafted and fabricated techniques, serves as an integral tool for investigating ideas, understanding spatial relationships, and refining design possibilities. This iterative approach allows concepts to evolve with clarity, precision, purpose, and meticulous planning.
The studio’s practice spans architecture, interior design, façade design, planning, and integrated project design across residential, commercial, bungalow, and mixed-use developments. Each project is approached as a unique opportunity to balance functionality, materiality, and context, translating design intent into meaningful spaces and enduring built forms.
Mr. Jayant Mulay
With over four decades of professional experience, he has led multidisciplinary teams of architects, engineers, and craftsmen across a diverse portfolio spanning residences, commercial developments, institutional campuses, landscapes, and interior spaces. His body of work includes notable projects such as Beverly Estates, Bellevista, Supermall, Ashwavan, Arthvishwa, Kalpvishwa, Aseemvishwa, Kalavishwa, and many more architecture and interior projects.
His approach is defined by a rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to carrying an architectural vision from its initial conception through to its realization. As one of the studio’s principal designers, he plays an integral role in shaping its creative direction, mentoring the design team, and guiding the translation of ideas into built form. His close involvement at every stage of the process ensures that each project is thoughtfully resolved, balancing design intent with technical precision, material integrity, and a lasting commitment to quality.
Ar. Akhil Mulay
Ar. Akhil Mulay trained at Pratt Institute, New York, before joining the studio of Frank Gehry, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, as a junior architect. Working across model-making and design, he contributed to projects spanning residential architecture, commercial spaces, and product design. This experience shaped his approach to architectural exploration, strengthening his understanding of how ideas can be investigated through diverse forms of representation and developed from initial concepts into resolved design details. During his tenure in the United States, he was also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Driven by a longstanding ambition to practise architecture in India, Akhil returned to the country in 2022 and joined Kalavishwa Studio, where he leads the studio’s design vision as Principal Designer. His approach is rooted in a pursuit of inventive ideas, thoughtful spatial experiences, and a strong relationship between concept and execution. Across diverse scales and typologies, he aspires to create architecture that is distinctive in its expression, meaningful in its experience, and enduring in its impact.
